Our Director of Children and Youth Ministries position is created with the vision of nurturing children and youth in all aspects of their Christian journey-fellowship, worship, discipleship, ministry, and evangelism. The person in this position will lead and develop dynamic opportunities for Christian growth with ages from birth through senior high school. The position is full-time with benefits. Position Title:

Director of Children and Youth Ministries

Mission Statement:

To enable the congregation of First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte to fulfill their commitment of nurturing children and youth in their Christian faith, providing opportunities to accept Jesus Christ as their savior and to grow in God’s grace, enabling them to develop the spirituality necessary for life's journey and a loving relationship with God, self, and others.

Fellowship:

  • Encourage and facilitate active participation of the entire family in the fellowship opportunities of the church
    • Middle School Youth Group canoe trips, concerts, bowling, and other similar activities
    • Senior High Youth Group movies, concerts, canoe trips, and other similar activities
  • Implement other fellowship opportunities as recommended by the Family Life Ministry Committee and/or Session.
Worship:
  • Prepare and present the Children's Message during the Sunday morning worship services
  • Participate in the monthly Chapel Worship Service with Small World Christian Learning Center
  • Implement other worship opportunities as recommended by the Family Life Ministry Committee in conjunction with the Worship Committee and/or Session.
Discipleship:
  • Recruit, screen, train, and supervise teachers, nursery attendants, and other volunteers for
    • Children's Church during the 8:30 A.M and 11:00A.M. Sunday worship services
    • King's Kids program between the Sunday morning worship services
    • Sunday School for middle school age and high school age youth between worship services
    • TNT on Thursday nights
  • Implement other discipleship opportunities as recommended by the Family Life Ministry Committee and/or Session
Ministry:
  • Recruit, screen, train, and supervise teachers, nursery attendants, and other volunteers for
    • Vacation Bible School
    • High Impact
    • Various Summer Camps at CedarKirk
    • Puppet Ministry
    • Harvest Festival
    • Ministry opportunities between local Presbyterian Churches
    • Easter Eggstravaganza
    • Birthday Party for Jesus
  • Develop and mentor student leadership "Blue Team"
  • Form a parent advisory team for the children and youth ministry
  • Coordinate activities with the Director of Small World Christian Learning Center/Camp Joy
    • Kidz Kamp
  • Implement other ministry opportunities as recommended by the Family Life Ministry Committee and/or Session

Evangelism:

  • Senior High Mission Trip to West Virginia
  • Middle School Mission Trip to Beth-El-Cedarkirk Base Camp
  • Develop, implement, and supervise age appropriate evangelism programs for children and youth as recommended by the Family Life Ministry Committee in conjunction with the Outreach Committee and/or Session

Position Requirements:

  • Be an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Port Charlotte
  • Work for the Glory of God and the edification of His church under the supervision of the Pastor/Head of Staff
  • Serve as an ex-officio member of Family Life Ministry Committee and work concurrently with their recommendations as approved by Session
  • Provide a written monthly report to Session

Personal Qualifications:

  • Possess a personal relationship with Jesus Christ evidenced though a moral/upright lifestyle and a willingness to share your faith with others
  • Be a fully devoted follower of Christ who exhibits a passion for nurturing children and youth
  • Demonstrate Christian leadership, commitment, and experience working with children and youth
  • Have the ability and willingness to work flexible hours
  • Be a team leader with supervisory, management, organizational, recruiting, and equipping skills
  • Utilize interpersonal skills that encourage and empower other staff, volunteers, children and youth
  • Exhibit computer skills including but not limited to Word, Power Point, and internet utilization
  • Demonstrate proficiency in written and verbal communication skills

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's degree OR Associate's degree with experience in children, middle and high school ministries
